-presidential candidate, sarah palin, posting her response on facebook to the video. many of you have seen theuent 07 speech in which then senator obama suggested that because of racism, the federal government didn't waive the stafford act to assist new orleans after katrina. 10 days before senator obama gave this speech, the federal government did in fact waive the stafford act for new orleans. and to add insult to injury, barack obama was one of 14 senators who voted against the bill that, included the provision to give supplemental emergency assistance to new orleans of he was being dishonest and divisive, which we have seen far too often from him in the last four years. former governor sarah palin is here. i am curious, i know he voted against the starveord act. but i am curious, that was part of a bill that had funding for iraq. that's why he was opposing the war in iraq. does that have any impact on your thoughts about this? >> yeah, it sure does. it makes me disrespect president obama, then candidate obama even more because he believed on principle that in order to defund our troops, the provi

of anger he never had for clinton or mccain, even after sarah palin was picked as his running mate. if it gets personal tonight, how careful do both men have to be with their tone? >> well, i actually think one of the great myths with presidential politics is that at some point somebody does a story about, hey, it's personal. these were always very competitive guys. it's like lebron and kobe, do they want to play each other? i don't know. but they want to beat each other. the discord in this race is almost less than any i have ever seen. neither of these guys are a hater. they are both very focused. they are no drama guy. and whether they dislike each other or not is immaterial. doesn't matter. >> rich stengel, thank you for your time this evening. >>> coming up, the right dusts off their old racial playbook and rush limbaugh is fanning the flames. it's ugly. >>> plus, the gop todd akin problem just got worse. you're watching a special edition of "politicsnation" as we get ready for the big night here on msnbc. stay with us. >> i don't think senator dole is too old to be president.

'll call you jennifer. you were the stand-in for sarah palin when joe biden was prepping in 2008. we were all wondering what's going on behind the scenes. how important is it this prepping for debate now? >> oh, it's huge. i mean, can you look at books and study policy papers all you want. there is no substitute for standing behind a podium and having everything but the kitchen sink thrown at you and formulate phrases to communicate. there's no substitute, and no one loves to do it. no one wants to do it, although i must say joe biden was very game in 2008 to do it. >> tell us what it looks like. who is actually in the room? this is a pretty secretive process zoosh yeah, i mean, i don't know what they're doing this year, but i can tell you in 2008 they have the policy people there. you remember that biden and obama were just sort of marrying as a team, and so we had some obama people and some biden people in the room. the folks who know the issues extremely well. the room itself is set up -- the stage exactly like the debate will be, so when you do the mock debates, you're really in chara
: governor sarah palin. this is just incredible to me. can we see this? i know it's hard to because it's over my fat head, yes, but the poor cameramans saying, neil, your head's a planetary system, we can't get past it. if you can try though, it's interesting. that's senator of hatch of utah. i don't think he's saying president obama had a good night. as we pan the room and the throng, i saw portman, i saw robert gibbs i think. here's what's interesting. when this started, folks, remember what they said about each of their candidates. he's not a good debater. he's really not very good at these kind of one-on-one exchanges. he's all but unable to walk, talk, and chew gum at the same time. now, after the debates, they are all einsteins, and that they delivered a kind of a moment, and it was a home run. i suspect we'll probably see the vice presidential debates going into with the expectations low and afterwards saying how great they did afterwards. i have no problem with that. i built a college career on it. some of you argue a professional career. keep the expectations low, and shock them on t
